NEIGHBORHOODS (2014)
In the Somali community of Minneapolis, Akbar and Aisha pick up their onetime friend Sharif from jail, but he only wants to meet up with the same people that got him arrested.
Making this film was a chance to peel back the negative stereotypes surrounding Muslim refugees. Every part of the process - whether conducting research or filming in sub zero temperatures - was a new and rewarding experience.
It played at over a dozen film festivals including the Athens International Film + Video festival, the Woods Hole Film Festival, and the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival. It also aired on PBS.
